Wednesday - Poetry Out Loud

Today we are going to practice for Poetry Out Loud and then begin Act III of Romeo and Juliet. Make sure you look over and study the notes you've taken for this Unit!!!  And make sure you know what the Inciting Event and Climax is.

Monday - Act III

Today we need to go over your presentations of Act II, practice your Poetry Out Loud poems and begin Act III. You should also be going over the notes that you have taken on metaphors, sonnets and on Shakespeare plays. 

Thursday and Friday

Thursday – Students need to work on their QUEEN OF MAB drawing.   Paper will be on the back table.   There will also be color pencils and crayons.   These drawings will be due on Tuesday. 1)    On a sheet of paper draw the images from Mercutio’s QUEEN OF MAB speech.  I want you to look closer at who the QUEEN OF MAB is and what she looks like and then I want you to look at the various dreams she brings different people.  Draw a picture of Queen Mab bringing a sleeping person a dream.  Next, print the lines from the poem that you are representing in your dream below your picture. 2)    Grade: 15 points for the depiction of Queen of Mab, her coach and her coachman. 10 points for the depiction of a sleeping person and the dream the Queen of Mab brings. 5 points for the text of the poem that you are representing printed at the bottom or top of the paper. 3) Put your name on the paper Friday – Vo...

Wednesday

Today we need to put some of your vocabulary on the board.  Discuss what happens in Act II and look at some of Friar Lawrence's lines, and go over your blog entries that you wrote yesterday, take notes on sonnets. Tuesday

Here is what you need to do today! 1) Spend the first 10 minutes working on Vocabulary.com Romeo and Juliet vocabulary list.  I'll be checking their scores. 2) Spend 10 minutes writing a blog entry of 1 paragraph discussion how long Romeo and Juliet have known each other, who asked who to marry, and speculated on how many rules Friar Lawrence broke in marrying them. 3) Break into two groups and rewrite Act II as a mini-play in contemporary english. 

Monday

Today we need to work on vocabulary, finish Act I, and watch Act 1 scenes 1-4. Homework for this week is to read ACT II, work on performance of Poetry Out Loud poems and study vocabulary words. You will also need to write a 1-sentence headline for every scene you read (Act 1.5, and all of Act II).

Today we are going to work on words of the day and then read Act 1 scene 3. Homework for tonight is to write a 1-sentence HEADLINE for scenes 1-3. Also to work on Poetry Out Loud memorization.

Wednesday

Today - we are going work on memorization of your poems for 20-30 minutes.  If there is too much talking we will move directly to Romeo and Juliet.  We are also going to finish scene 1 and 2 of Act 1 and - if there is time - take notes on figurative language.

You need to work on memorization of your Poetry Out Loud poems and answer the following questions: 1) What is your poem about - think THEME here.  What is the theme. 2) What is story is being told in your poem.  Summarize the story or action in your own words. 3) What types of figurative language does your poem contain.  List the examples.  Now explain what this figurative language is doing in the poem.  How is it creating meaning? 4) Is there a rhyme scheme?  Write it out. 5) Does your poem have a particular form? 6) What is the tone of your poem?  The tone should change through out. 7) Where is the turn in the poem?  Write out the turn. Now read back through your poem and underline important words, words that you should emphasize.  Think about where your voice/tone should change - particularly at the turn of the poem.  Remember this is about delivery, not just about memorization.
